Rosemarie Colon

Hi! My Name is Rosemarie, I am from New Jersey. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from Marywood University and my teacher’s certification in Mathematics at the University of Delaware.

I am an enthusiastic teacher and I strive to help students meet their highest potential. For the past 8 years I have been teaching and supporting a special needs youth in a 1:1 environment. My youth is diagnosed with ADHD, ODD, and Dysgraphia. He also has challenges with short term memory, processing speed, and spelling. This youth has shown me what positive praise and personalized attention can do.

I tried to make learning fun for him by thinking outside of the box. We would sit on the floor together and use the tiles on the ground as visual aids. I used kinesthetic devices to aid the student in learning math concepts. We made fraction brownies and homemade fraction tiles. We used linking cubes together and other hands-on tools as aids for his learning. I have enjoyed my time supporting him with his academics and working through some of his behavioral challenges.

Prior to working with him I previously taught for three years in public and private sectors, as well as tutoring and teaching at a junior college. When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family, watching movies, and taking trips. I am excited about building math skills in creative ways with new students at The Academy Virtual!
